STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Math

FOSS targets STEM to make sure our students are provided the resources and education in this key area which is shaping our future.  

Laser Cutter

FOSS funded the purchase of a 3D printer in 2017 and in 2019 a new laser cutter.  The laser cutter allows the user to cut through a wide range of materials with high precision.  Our STEM lab is filled with state of the art technology that allows kids to turn their ideas into reality. 

Lab Facilitator

When the Slavens STEM Lab was built, it aligned with the FOSS mission to sponsor and pay the salary of a full-time lab facilitator. 

Kids in grade 1-3 are already excited to share their STEM portfolio work and pictures of what they are experiencing with parents and loved ones through Class Dojo "I am very excited that the account will follow each child for several years to see progress and the amazing projects they will do in the lab!" ~ Colleen

Mobile STEM Lab

Have you noticed the computers in the STEM lab?  Currently our students work on iMac computers in the STEM lab and for the 2021/2022 school year a new Mobile STEM lab is being introduced with six new laptops.  Each year FOSS sets aside a portion of donations in order to have funds available to replace all the computers in the lab every six years.  Keeping up with technology is an ongoing process!

Music

FOSS supports Band to make sure our students can come alive through music.  This year 30 new Ukuleles were purchased for the music room.  

Band

The Slavens Band Program offers beginning, intermediate and advanced band reaching more than 70 students in 4th-8th grade.  Check out the link to learn how students will pick instruments this year.

Personal Protective Equipment was purchased to protect our students while allowing them to practice and perform safely.

Scholarships

FOSS continues to support the band program by offering scholarships to students in need, as we believe music is for all!

Sound System

When the gymatorium was built, there weren't enough funds for a proper PA system. In order to make sure live performances can be heard in the booming gym, FOSS helped pay for the sound system.  

ART Festival

Each year our children's artwork is put on display at the annual ARTS festival.  One piece is selected from each grade and presented to the winning student at Grandparents & Special Guests day the following year.  This artwork is framed and displayed in the hallways of our school for 10 years!  What an amazing legacy of our children's talent.  

 

 

2020 was a different year and the 23rd annual arts festival went virtual.  Take a look at all the amazing artwork the kids made in the comfort of their own home!

Color Printer

A new color printer was purchased specifically for the Art room.  Now students can have access to a printer when working on digital artwork.

Art Framing

Don't have time to visit your favorite museum or art gallery.  Just take a stroll through the halls.  Professionally framed artwork hangs throughout the school.  FOSS makes sure we can continue to frame new artwork recoginizing and making our children feel proud.   

Spring Arts Festival

Our annual Spring Arts Festival is a chance for our students to show off their artistic creations.

Foreign Language

FOSS helps out the Slavens Spanish program by purchasing new materials and books when needed.  Spanish books have been updated and replaced in 2019.  

Athletics

In 2018 multiple sport teams expanded the programs to include Junior Varsity teams.  FOSS helps pay for equipment, uniforms and referees annually.
